New Feature: Viewer Access for Documents and Folders

Release date: 21 October 2025

We’re excited to introduce Viewer Access in Pocketlaw - giving you more control over who can edit and who can only view documents and folders.

What’s New

Until now, all users with access to documents and folders had full editing rights. You can now choose between two permission levels:

Documents

Editor Access

Editors can in relation to the document:

  • Edit title and content

  • Delete

  • Download

  • Import new version

  • Grant or remove access for others

  • Add, respond to and remove comments

  • Accept or reject suggestions

  • Move documents between folders

  • Find the document in search and reporting

Viewer Access

Viewers can:

  • View title and content, but not edit or delete it

  • See comments and suggestions, but not add, respond to or delete

  • Find the document in search and reporting

Folders

Editor Access

Editors can in relation to the folder

  • Edit title

  • Delete

  • Grant or remove access for others

  • Add documents

  • Move

  • Create sub-folder

  • Access content in folder and sub-folders with Editor access

Viewer Access

Viewers can in relation to the folder:

  • View title, but not edit it

  • Access content in folder and sub-folders with Viewer access

Viewer access is ideal for stakeholders who need visibility without editing rights - such as executives reviewing contracts, external advisors, or colleagues needing reference-only access.

Getting Started

You can manage permissions directly in:

  • When creating or uploading documents and/or folders

  • Document access settings

  • Folder access settings

  • Projects

  • Teams

This update gives your organization greater flexibility and security when collaborating across teams and stakeholders.
